Furry Circuits is a newsletter that curates the most interesting ideas, tools, and breakthroughs in modern software and engineering. From time to time, I also publish longer essays, guides, and tutorials on the same topics. It’s written by me, Patrick Prunty, a software engineer based in London, United Kingdom.

So, why the name Furry Circuits?

When I was a boy, my Father worked in construction. When I was old enough, I would help him with small jobs in our local area. This was where I, on occasion, accidentally grabbed a live cable. I referred to the sensation of being shocked—of having electricity pass through my body as “furry.”

Circuits, of course, are not furry. Referring to them as such is a literary technique known as personification. As a boy, I didn’t know this. I was simply giving life to something lifeless.

Now, I work (to some degree) with circuits every day through the use of my computer. Much of the work software engineers do can seem mundane and thankless from the outside. But I try to focus on the fun stuff and give life to the things that deserve it. The interesting discoveries I encounter along the way, I’ll share with you here, at Furry Circuits.
