Hello hello!
I'm Patrick Prunty—senior software developer, occasional writer, and amateur explorer.
Welcome to Furry Circuits! This is my corner of the web where I publish essays and a weekly newsletter exploring artificial intelligence, computer programming, and anything else that sparks curiosity along the way.
If you’re new, here try “The Engineer’s Proclivity for Perfection” or or browse one of my weekly newsletters. If this isn’t your first time, please consider supporting my work by subscribing below.
Why the name, ‘Furry Circuits’?
My father works in construction, and as a boy I more than once accidentally grabbed live cables carrying different voltages. I referred to the sensation of being shocked—of having electricity pass through my body—as "furry."
Circuits, of course, are not furry. Referring to them as such is a literary technique known as personification. As a boy, I didn't know this—I was simply giving life to something lifeless.
Now, I work (to some degree) with circuits every day through my computer. Much of the work software engineers do can seem mundane and thankless from the outside. But I try to focus on the fun stuff and give life to the things that deserve it. The interesting discoveries I encounter along the way—those I'll share with you here at Furry Circuits.
